Son Tu, Ph.D.

  • Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Education

Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2022
B.S., University of Science, Vietnam National University HCMC, 2015

Biography

Dr. Tu joined Baylor University in 2025, following three years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Michigan State University under the mentorship of Olga Turanova. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison under the supervision of Hung Tran.

Academic Interests

Dr. Tu’s research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations, with a particular focus on Hamilton–Jacobi equations and related free-boundary problems. His work spans a broad range of topics, including integro-differential equations, optimal control, homogenization, and dynamical systems.

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student interested in my research topics, feel free to email me to discuss potential research opportunities or simply to explore and learn more. I would be happy to hear from you.

I am serving as a Guest Editor for the collection Optimal Control, Mean-Field Games, and PDEs in Decision Models, in Advances in Continuous and Discrete Models. Together with Yeoneung Kim, we welcome submissions related to the topic. Please contact me if you are interested in contributing. The submission deadline is December 18, 2026. See the call for papers for details.
