Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Baylor University Department of Mathematics! Our department is home to a dynamic and expanding faculty, currently consisting of 23 tenured and tenure-track professors, 11 lecturers, and 4 postdoctoral researchers. Our department has strong expertise across a wide range of mathematical disciplines, including algebra, analysis, differential equations, functional analysis, mathematics education, mathematical physics, computational mathematics, numerical analysis, representation theory, and topology.
We offer degree programs at all academic levels: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph.D. in Mathematics. In addition, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. Currently, we have 48 graduate students working closely with faculty mentors on research in both pure and applied mathematics.
Our mission is threefold: to provide high-quality mathematics instruction at every level; to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of mathematical knowledge; and to develop ethical, skilled, and socially responsible professionals within a Christian academic environment.
A hallmark of the Baylor Mathematics Department—and a long-standing university tradition—is the individual attention our students receive. Our faculty members uphold open-door policies, fostering accessibility and a welcoming, supportive atmosphere. We are proud to offer small class sizes, even in introductory courses such as Precalculus and Calculus, where nearly all sections have fewer than 39 students. Upper-level courses typically enroll fewer than 20 students, creating opportunities for close collaboration with professors and opening pathways to undergraduate research in a wide range of topics.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our academic programs, dedicated faculty, and vibrant community. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.
