New Faculty Join the Math Department for the Upcoming Academic Year
As the new academic year begins, we’re pleased to introduce the newest members of our Math Department team. Joining us are Assistant Professor Dr. Son Tu, Postdoctoral Research Fellow Dr. Artur Andrade and Postdoctoral Research Associate Ahsan Ali.
Dr. Son Tu
Dr. Son Tu joined Baylor University as an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department, after serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Michigan State University, where he worked with Olga Turanova. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2022 under the supervision of Hung Tran. His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations, particularly Hamilton–Jacobi equations arising in optimal control theory. His work spans topics such as homogenization, weak KAM theory in dynamical systems, and, most recently, connections to free boundary problems in fluid mechanics. Dr. Artur Andrade
Dr. Artur Andrade joins the Department of Mathematics as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow after earning his Ph.D. from Temple University. His research interests lie at the interface of Partial Differential Equations, Harmonic Analysis, and Geometric Measure Theory. He is excited to join Baylor University and looks forward to contributing to its teaching and research mission.
Dr. Ahsan Ali
Dr. Ahsan Ali completed his PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of New Mexico in Spring 2025, with his dissertation centered on algebraic multigrid (AMG) methods. In the summer of 2025, he joined Baylor’s Department of Mathematics as a Postdoctoral Research Associate working with Professor Robert Kirby on an NSF-funded project. His research interests span algebraic multigrid solvers, iterative methods, and scientific computing. Learn more about him at his website: https://ahsanali-web.github.io/.
