Baylor University Hosts 105th Annual Texas Section MAA Meeting

March 27, 2026

Faculty and students from across Texas, along with other members of the Mathematical Association of America, gathered at Baylor University on March 27–28 for the 105th Annual Meeting of the Texas Section of the MAA, a two-day conference focused on mathematics research, teaching, and professional collaboration.

The annual meeting welcomed 339 attendees, including 136 faculty members and 203 students, representing colleges and universities from across the state. Hosted by Baylor's Department of Mathematics, the conference featured 25 faculty presentations and 40 student talks, giving participants ample opportunity to share research and ideas.

The conference also included a graduate fair, where students connected with graduate programs and university representatives to explore academic pathways in mathematics and related fields.

A new addition to this year's meeting was the student poster session, which encouraged informal research discussions and student engagement, with 18 presenters covering a broad range of mathematical topics. Baylor Ph.D. student Pedro Takemura earned third place in the poster competition.

Conference programming also featured invited speakers, breakout sessions, and a panel discussion on artificial intelligence in mathematics education, exploring how emerging technology is shaping teaching, learning, and mathematical practice.

The Math Bowl drew 25 competing teams, with the Baylor team — Dominic Handsborough, Lucy Lu, Zayn Matthews, Evan Roos, and Paul Yao — taking first place. Congratulations to our students on this strong showing!

The annual meeting underscored Baylor's role as a hub for statewide academic collaboration and its continued commitment to advancing mathematics education in Texas.
