Spring 2025 Graduate Student Seminar Series
This spring, the Baylor Mathematics Graduate Student Seminar Series continued to foster community, professional development, and early research exploration through a trio of well-attended events.
Boundaries, Community, & Flourishing (February 24, 2025)
The first seminar event of this spring was a panel discussion involving current graduate students. They shared about their experiences in the program and promoted constructive dialogue about balancing academic life with outside commitments, how to structure time, healthy interpersonal boundaries, and more.
Graduate Student Research Preview (April 5, 2025)
A second batch of graduate student presenters took the stage to share about their experiences conducting research in our graduate program. Each presenter told how they met their current supervisor, what working with that person is like, and shared an accessible, yet technical introduction to their research area. This event was designed to promote inquiry and conversation among early-term students about their potential research direction. Presenters: Jonathan Feigert (Model Theory), William Clark (Representation Theory), Rafael Morales (Orthogonal Polynomials), Eduardo Servin (Numerical PDEs), and Ellie Matter (Mean Field Games)
Job Documents & Applications (April 28, 2025)
Applying for jobs can be very intimidating, and this joint event with the graduate student seminar and several faculty members was designed to share information about this important process. Upper-level students shared about their experiences on the job market, and what it was like to prepare applications, while professors shared their experiences from service on search committees and from numerous interviews with candidates.
