New Faculty in Math Department
The math department welcomes new faculty this fall. Joining us are Postdoctoral Research Associate Dr. Antonio Ismael Cano Marmol, Lecturer of Mathematics Dr. Josiah Ireland, Assistant Professor of Mathematics Marcos Mazari-Armida, and Lecturer of Mathematics Dr. Kyunglim Nam.
Dr. Antonio Ismael Cano Marmol came to Waco from the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he received a Ph.D. in Mathematics. He is interested in problems in harmonic and functional analysis.
Dr. Josiah Ireland completed his Ph.D. in mathematics at Oklahoma State University in July 2022 with a research focus in mathematics education. After that, he taught for one year at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana, before coming to Waco in the summer of 2023.
Dr. Marcos Mazari-Armida received his bachelor’s degree at UNAM (Mexico) and his Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University. He received the 2021 Sacks Prize from the Association for Symbolic Logic for the best thesis in mathematical logic in the world in 2021. Before coming to Baylor, Marcos was a postdoc at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research primarily focuses on finding connections between logic and algebra. More specifically, he works at the interface between model theory and module theory. You can read more about Marcos here https://sites.baylor.edu/marcos_mazari/.
Dr. Kyunglim Nam received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Georgia with a thesis in wavelet analysis. She has been teaching as an adjunct lecturer at Baylor since 2012.
